1988:
October 1988 Guitar World
Guitar World interviewed Jimmy Page about his Outrider tour in the October 1988 issue of the magazine. According to the interview, "...after having his initial set of demos for the album stolen, he chose not to prepare at all. Instead, he'd walk into the studio each workday with a willing heart and an open mind, simply picking up a guitar and jamming with whatever rhythm section happened to be in the room. "

Wouldn't it be wonderful if he did his next album the same way?

1989:
Jimmy Page, Robert Plant, and John Paul Jones, with Chris Blackwell on drums and Phil Johnstone on keyboard helped Carmen Plant celebrate her 21st birthday party on this day. Jimmy Page's daughter Scarlet was also at the party.

2015:
Let me explain about what's going on with me and this blog. I usually take the month of November to participate in NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month). That was my intention this month. But I got waylaid by a paying job - I am a writer/researcher-for-hire in real life. It was a rush job with a deadline of Nov 20 and an understanding that it was not humanly possible to complete all the work in that time. Then the deadline got extended for a couple more days.

So I'm still focusing on that and not NaNoWriMo this month - and not Mage Music, either. I know this will shock you, but as important as Mage Music is in my life, it's a labor of love that doesn't pay the bills.

2015 19 November Jimmy Page Honoree at EMP Museum, Seattle

Jimmy Page was the main event at the 19 November, 2015 EMP Founder's Award event.

The nonprofit museum is focused on contemporary popular culture with roots in rock 'n' roll. Seattle is, of course, Jimi Hendrix's hometown.

From the EMP website:

"Inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame twice for his work with The Yardbirds and Led Zeppelin, Jimmy Page has made a significant impact on our cultural landscape with his music. He also has shown his devotion to the craft of sound, serving as Led Zeppelin’s producer and remastering the band’s original work as audio technology has evolved over the decades. His musical experimentation and inventive style have inspired millions of aspiring creators to discover their artistic potential, making Mr. Page the perfect fit for EMP Museum’s prestigious award."

Dancing Days was premiered at this show - it had not yet been recorded for Houses of the Holy. Stone the Crows, with Maggie Bell, opened for Led Zeppelin. Maggie later signed on with Swan Song Records, and she performed at the Ahmet Ertegun Tribute concert in 2007.

The good news is it's finally Friday.
The bad news (for this blog) is that my project deadline got extended so I gotta keep working.
Only a few more days, though...

Coda is Led Zeppelin's ninth studio album and is comprised of unused tracks from the band's various studio sessions over the years. "Coda" is a musical term that means a passage that follows the main body of a musical piece and provides a conclusion to the piece.
"Coda was released, basically, because there was so much bootleg stuff out. We thought, "Well, if there's that much interest, then we may as well put the rest of our studio stuff out".

Some kind of Magick - two places at once?

According to Dave Lewis, in his book The Tight But Loose Files, the Sydney show was on 16 November. So maybe the show aired the next night. Then again, according to the Get A Grip Tour Dates, Aerosmith played in Buenos Aires on 18 and 19 November, not on the 17th.

But maybe it did all happen on 17 November.  Maybe it was just Jimmy Page Magick.

1984:
The Old Grey Whistle Test was a TV Show that aired on BBC2 from 1971 to 1988. The name supposedly was from a Tin Pan Alley phrase from years before.

Tin Pan Alley was a group of New York City music publishers and songwriters of the late 19th century and early 20th century.  The Whistle Test was the playing of the first pressing of a record to an audience of the buildings' doormen, who wore grey suits. If the song was catchy enough for it to be whistled back after hearing it a couple times, it passed the test.

I cant' say Roy Harper's music would pass the Mage Music Whistle Test, but Jimmy Page's?  You betcha. Every time.
